SUMMARY:South Hams H4 Hash 1477 - South Brent Station Car Park
DESCRIPTION:On down at The Packhorse\, please order food before but they wi
ll keep the kitchen open later so no need to be back by 8.30\n\n&nbsp\;\n\
 nThe Words according to BADCOCK\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nHash 1477 - SOUTH BRENT:\n\n
The Circle Up saw a smaller group than usual this week\, with females outn
umbering males by a ratio of 4 to 1. I wondered what might explain the low
male turnout. Perhaps there was a local Shed Enthusiast convention? Or ma
ybe the Watchdog special on faulty bikinis was airing on TV again? Who kno
ws\; it was quite the mystery.\nI had been in a complete dilemma all day:
watch the footy round the neighbours’ house\, as arranged? Or show my su
pport to the local hash\, lovingly prepared by Willy Waiver? Football or H
ash? Football or Hash? Football or Hash... After many hours of pondering\,
self-reflection and agonising soul-searching\, I came to the obvious\, mo
st-logical conclusion: I could do the Short\, get back to The Packhorse in
time for kick-off and drink my own body weight in ale. Decision made!!\nA
t the Circle Up\, Willy Waiver asked if I minded sweeping the Longs. And t
hen - to add insult to injury - I was nominated to do The Words. Bugger! W
ith the Lost Causes doing the Longs\, I’d be lucky to get back before th
e final whistle of Extra Time!!! I thought of the irony of doing a runner
from the hash\, but decided against it.\nWilly Waiver had prepared a fine
trail\, with the Longs and the Shorts all ascending the steep slopes to th
e top of Brent Hill\, where a splendid 4G signal meant I could listen to t
he football commentary on my phone. [Ed. phew] After half an hour\, Englan
d were 1 - 0 down\, so I decided to move on\, catch up with the Lost Cause
s\, and do my duty as Sweep\, feeling a bit like a sheepdog herding a part
icularly unruly flock. The deep river-crossing proved daunting for Vindalo
o and Barbarella\, who turned back and opted for the Short trail instead.\
nBack in the pub the football rabble completely drowned out Squashed Balls
efforts to RA: no-one could hear the poor fella over the chants of "It's
coming Home\, its coming home\; football's coming home..." As if. The nois
e of the pub\, and Squashed Balls illegible notes randomly scripted on an
old palm leaf\, meant I've been struggling to find any snippets of hash mi
sdemeanors\, social blunders or impropriety to pad out the Words.\nThe Dow
n Downs possibly went to:\nWilly Waiver for an excellent Hash\nMuck Spread
er? [for Hash Heroism: gallantly ensuring hashers made it across the ragin
g torrent safely]\nWinnie the Pooh? [commitment to Hashing: all-day drinki
ng\, but still valiantly making it to the hash\, and continuing...)\nHarry
  Kane - Penalty\nOlly Watkins - Late Winner\n\nPickpocket - [more Hash Her
oism: generously lending a warm layer of her own to some other shivering h
 asher (possibly post-river traverse?}]\n\nGaffer - [general grumbling (a s
 low news day\, evidently...)]\n\nGary Glitter - [I forget why...but doubtl
ess a very worthy reason. And always humbling to witness a master beer-chu
gger practise their craft 😘]\nOn On to Berlin for the Final [Ed. Tumble
weed...(too soon?)].\nOr possibly The Odd Wheel at WEMBURY.\n\n👣\n_____
