Anti-Bullying Policy

for SH4 South Hams Hash House Harriers

Statement of Intent

The SH4 Committee are committed to providing an inclusive, caring, friendly and
safe environment for all our members so they can participate in a relaxed and secure
atmosphere. Bullying of any kind is unacceptable at our Hash. If bullying does occur,
all hashers should be confident to know that the SH4 Committee will deal with
incidents promptly and effectively.
We support openness and transparency. This means that anyone who knows that
bullying is happening can tell the Committee with confidence that their concerns will
be taken seriously.
What Is Bullying?
Bullying is the use of aggression or intimidation with the intention of harming another
person. Bullying results in pain and distress to the victim.
Bullying can be:
• Emotional, Physical, Racial or Sexual comments or taunts.
• Being unfriendly, exclusion of persons from activities, sending hurtful messages,
• Pushing, kicking, hitting, punching or any use of violence, graffiti, gestures
unwanted physical contact or sexually abusive comments
• Homophobic because of, or focussing on the issue of sexuality
Why is it Important to Respond to Bullying?
No one deserves to be a victim of bullying. Everybody has the right to be treated with
respect. SH4 has a responsibility to respond promptly and effectively to issues of
bullying.
Objectives of this Policy
• All committee members and hashers should have an understanding of what
bullying is, what the SH4 policy is on bullying and to follow the SH4 Anti-bullying
policy when bullying is reported.
• The SH4 Committee will take reports of bullying seriously and will not be tolerated.
• Any reported bullying will be dealt with robustly through the SH4 standards of
behaviour process.
