Hash 1597 – LEE MILL
Just not quick enough! Could be a generic observation of me on hashes, or, indeed, in life in general….. but in this case, answering the question that came out of the blue…. Have you done the words recently Jyde? I had practised and practised the answer to this one and still failed on the night (Ed. Ah, the Circle Up ambush! Steelier resolves have crumbled in the face of its awesome power!). I think if Lactaster had said Jyde! loudly at the beginning of the circle up to grab my attention, I would have had more time to think on my feet. Or maybe not, it depends on how much I was chatting at the time…
Anyway, on to the hash… Being somewhat of an authority on bad handwriting (Ed. occupational requirement, second only to a reasonable understanding of human physiology etc.), I thought I would easily decipher the notes handed to me by Overshot, but alas, it was not to be… I did detect a lean towards a hunting theme, but he soon lost the metaphor which had seen him coming and scuttled off… 😆
So in no particular order I will relay said notes —>
‘Butter really humous…’ Or could it have been Gaffer really happy? (Ed. your first thought sounds far more plausible…) No idea why on this occasion, but he does appear to be a happy chappy, apart from all the moaning..(or maybe because of all the moaning…)
Good Head tried to trip up Overshot but failed, leaving the task to DeBriefed (Ed. Admirable teamwork…or it would’ve been, but I think it was poor DeBriefed who sustained yet another quite-gruesome laceration). No serious injury apparently, no litigation required…
Rizzo and WGAS were so committed to the hash that they travelled 1000miles to be here. The Proclaimers only needed to go 500…
Live Wire was apparently so fast that he overtook himself, got lost and had to resort to the outside lane of the Devon expressway to get back (Ed. if he hadn’t got stuck behind some lane-hog only doing 80mph he’d have been back first). That’ll stand him in good stead once he is allowed behind a steering wheel…
It was reported that Boaty had turned down help from his kids and sent them home! Probably because they couldn’t keep up with his moped.
Another kid, Hardcore, was well ahead of his parents but not brave enough to overtake Wetspot; I don’t blame him actually, why would you if he was only going to trip you up… (Ed. quite right; such a wise head on those young shoulders…)
Badcock somehow forgot that he had been told that the Long was 7 miles, completed it, and then went back and did the Short, or something like that. Nutter… (Ed. probably just keen to justify taking a torch…)
Anchorman was welcomed back after some sort of Moustache-related injury. No evidence as to how that happened – and I don’t want to know, either…
Also welcomed back was Barbie who managed a full walk, and just to assert his mastery of the Art of Hashing, kicked out a check! (Don’t embarrass him by informing him that it was in the wrong direction; he thinks he’s good at it… [Ed. we’re not in the business of bursting bubbles here 😊])
(Injury) Health and Safety report:
1. Debriefed – not serious, as drinking in pub after
2. Boaty – ditto
(Ed. And that, right there, is the expert conclusion of years of intense medical training and clinical experience 😘)
Down Downs:
No idea. RA didn’t write them down. I suppose I was meant to? Soz…
Ed. Based entirely on Facebook-group photo-sleuthing:
- Boaty – Hare and Birthday boy
- Barbie – returning legend
- Bed Bug – Birthday Boy’s responsible adult
- Badcock – going the extra mile in pursuit of value
- Live Wire – going the extra mile in the fast lane
- Anchorman – undisclosed moustache-related indisposition
- Hardcore – speedy AND sensible!
