The Words according to DE-BRIEFED

🌟 👣  🌟

(Ed. Apologies to De-Briefed, who got her Words submission to the Editor in very timely fashion on Friday…but was met by a resounding silence from SH4 Editorial HQ! Sleeping on the job again… Although, for penance, I did have to manually re-insert the gallery of emojis she had used to punctuate her account of the evening 😆)

Hash 1587 – DARTMOUTH

I suppose we should start with a round of applause for those that attended on Wednesday (Ed. always…), and for those that were otherwise engaged  . The word of the night was UP – not a little up; a great big stonking UP 😳

It’s never a good start at circle UP for someone to say “Oh, tonight’s hare is notoriously evil when she lays a hash” and, to my horror, All Night Peyps agreed! 😈 (Ed. sometimes a little ‘economy with the truth’  is more welcome…) We were informed that we needed to be looking for flour (not wholemeal, thank goodness!), sawdust and blue chalk. The Short route was a good 4 miles and the Longs needed to brace themselves for 6 ‘and a lot’ 😬 miles. It was suggested that by the end the hash might be laid in the hashers’ own blood, sweat and tears! (Ed. it’s good to experiment; trails have been laid in less immediately visible varieties of sawdust, I’m sure…) Virgin Alex 😉 looked a little alarmed by the instructions being given for the evening, however returning virgin, Johan, just looked eager to get going. In fact, this was the last time us Short FRBs (Ed. nothing to do with stature?) – as we have named ourselves – were to see speedy Johan, who proved to be an actual proper FRB. We later found out that poor Johan took an unfortunate tumble, and for once we could not blame Overshot – so we all agreed it must have been Overshot in spirit 👻 (Ed. and blamed him remotely).

Despite the small amount of hashers there was the usual bad behaviour: Fob Jockey was reported to be short-cutting; WGAS telling really bad jokes – jokes that, I have to say, were even worse than our resident comedian, Squash Balls’; and Olive got lost, twice, on one occasion ending up at the beach for a quick swim. 🏖 I can report, which I am sure Gaffer will be pleased to hear, there were plenty of checks, although it was necessary to remind some seasoned Hashers how these work!

Back at the pub we found out that our very own Gary was famous 🎭: there was photographic evidence on the walls of her starring roll in what we decided was an 1800’s soap opera called “The Onedin Line” (Google it!).

RA duties were in the safe hands of Anchorman, much to the relief of Nice Tackle & Gary who had earlier shared a moment…a moment of panic as to who would be performing the evening’s RA duties (Ed. everyone’s favourite moustachioed hasher to the rescue!).

We learnt that Dirty Bum Bum had a hot running engine 🔥 – no more questions were asked (Ed. v. wise) – and Cowpat and Gary took the evening at a leisurely pace 🐌.

Squash Balls was also running hot with a new lady on the scene, and in his keenness to wine and dine her, he spent much of the evening looking for chilli mix 🌶, which took him on his own hash route to Sainsbury’s. (Ed. where, I think, he was disappointed by an inadequate selection of spices but not entirely, er, Schwartz-ed…[‘thwarted’; I know – if you have to spell it out, it’s not funny…])

We also saw a new title awarded to our very own hash hero, Nice Tackle, who had been helping blind runners at a recent event 🦸‍♂️.

Finally, a T-shirt presentation (oh, how I long for a T-Shirt presentation): 500 – yes, you heard me right – 500 wasted Wednesdays to our very own hash flash himself, Rubbery 📸.

Down Downs were awarded to:

  • Rubbery – 500 “Runs” 👕
  • Alex – Virgin 😉
  • All Night Pepys – Hare 😈🐇
  • Cow Pat – Hare 🐇
  • Squash Balls – Chilli Mix hunt 🌶
