The Words according to DIRTY NIGHTS

Hash 1467 – DITTISHAM

Over the sea. Over the land. Over the bumpy waves. On a hot, spring day.

If Carling did hashes, this would be up there as one of the most beautiful. Dittisham did not disappoint, with views of the estuary in the glistening evening sun, and laid by the wonderful and kind (Ed. What did you do, Dirty Nights…?) Ching Chong and Can’t Come. Hashers were treated to a calm evening, which obviously didn’t last long, it being a hash and all.

There was no shortage of hills, which caused a distressed Blown Off to announce on the first ascent that ‘they get right up your bum’. No one is sure what he was referring to, being in polite company. Most hashers were clearly without the need for head-torches–now that the days are getting longer–unless they were Olive, whom was grateful to not be so careless and discard hers so early: a head-torch comes in very useful, running through a shady dell with sunglasses on.

The quirky village of Capton provided amusing competition to hashers keen to compare and contrast their features against arty statues. This upset Shaggy so much that she took a detour the wrong way out of the village and only returned to the trail when the nonsense had stopped (Ed. does it ever?).

Safety first this week (as always, surely) as Rubbery took to heart the phrase ‘drink beer, save water’ to protect the hashers from the neighbouring outbreak of cryptosporidium (Ed. a mercifully H2O-free Beer Stop. In fact, some of the youngest hashers conscientiously availed themselves of several ‘doses’ of the Limoncello on offer–purely to neutralise the effects of any stray water-borne contaminants they may have mistakenly ingested, of course.)

Back at the Ferry Boat Inn after some terrible jokes by the joyous Overshot, whom was delighted that he had an excuse to wear his Lord Admiral hat, conversations turned to the naming of a hasher. It was observed that he had a distinctive ‘HH’ logo on his running attire, which took no prompting from Rusty Bottom to proclaim he should be called ‘Hot and Horny’!

Down downs were awarded to:
• Hares Can’t Come and Ching Chong
• birthday-girl Lactaster
• Spunky, a visiting hasher from Zurich
• Shaggy – wrong turns (various)
• Live Wire – upcoming birthday (Sunday?)
• Newly-named Hot and Horny.
On on.
Dirty Nights
ON ON to SHIPLEY BRIDGE (again)
