Hash 1487 – HOPE COVE
It was a perfect night for hashing, beautiful sunset and full Corn Moon shining over Hope Cove. Little Chef and Bit of Ruff had not let us down and had laid an amazing hash with lots of Long/Short splits, so plenty of choice.
The Circle Up was uneventful (except I got landed with the words!), and off we went. I decided to do the Short with Know Nuts not being able to keep up with Olive who is super-fit, training for the Torquay half-marathon. Olive ran with Ching Chong and was back in reasonable time, which was surprising as Olive got a bat stuck in her hair. It was interesting on the Short: Know Nuts and I coming across unchecked checks – were we in the lead? Jyde thought so, as he tried to catch us up and failed.
There was a split in the hash, with some members choosing to go for a swim. I am not sure who really did and who used it as an excuse for being late back. Nutcracker, Rubbery and Twisted Sister definitely did, with Rubbery adding to the moonlight by mooning when changing. Gaffer was reported to go swimming but this was not corroborated. Apparently, Wet Spot also went swimming but remained mysteriously dry!
The hares had gone out and re-laid the Walk, which sadly nobody did! Maybe Lactaster should have, as she was reported to have stubbed her toe on a rock and was heard ‘effing and blinding’ like there was no tomorrow.
In other news Dim Wit told a driver off for bad driving and driving over his son’s cloths, only to see the driver drive into a post and rip his bumper off. The driver should have listened to Dimmers.
Jyde and Hekkyl have a ‘big tent’ in their garden, as their middle son is having a wedding blessing this weekend (good excuse for a hash party!?), And finally, Undercovers says he has plantar fasciitis and was discussing the best drugs and alcohol remedies with Olive.
At the RA-ing:
Winnie got her 200 tee shirt
Squashed Balls told a bad joke, what’s new.
And Down Downs went to
The hares, Little Chef and Bit of Ruff
Winnie – 200 T-shirt
Dimmers – for attempting to educate a fellow driver and failing
Lactaster – losing a fight with a rock
Undercovers – additional anaesthetic

BIG CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who ran, jogged or walked (all or any part of) the RAMBO SALCOMBE MARATHON at the weekend!
After an overcast (ever so slightly chilly, even…) start from Strete Gate at 9am, the clouds burnt away to give a gift of a late summer’s day, showcasing some of the best of South West Coastal Path, in all its spectacular beauty.
The glorious sunshine – and humid heat – made the challenging course pretty excruciating on the exposed cliffs, but there were some welcome, shady wooded sections and 5 check-in stops, with water, snacks and suncream – plus a bonus water-stop at Smash’s place, in (holiday-mode☀️ 😎) Hope Cove! The finish at Terawhiti Farm, Thurlestone offered more shade, hydration and sweeties, as well as hugs from No Butt and Mouthful.
Big thanks to Filth, Zoot and Hotlips for all the hard work that went into organising and co-ordinating such a brilliant event (both before and during). Thank you, also, to Zoot for her words before feet hit the trail: an important reminder of the significance of this run, that now takes Rambo’s name, and of the importance of checking in on people and encouraging talk to share the load whenever it’s needed. Rambo and Fallen Woman were both remembered.
All proceeds from the event are donated to the SW Coast Path and to the charity, Pete’s Dragons that supports all those impacted by suicide.
See you next year!
