Hash 1569 – MORELEIGH
We, once more, valiantly swam our way to Moreleigh for yet another wet, wet, wet Circle Up!

Ching Chong’s briefing was brilliant – although the RA thought he had suddenly found himself in an episode of Ab Fab, listening to Patsy deliver the detail… (or lack thereof). Ching Chong had stepped in to lay the hash alone as Squashed Balls was called away to a funeral, but Can’t Come did also help by sweeping up the Longs…and had driven in extra bags of flour, on request, when the marks were washed away during the laying process!

The Longs were to be 6.5; the Shorts 4 and the Walkers 2 miles. Squashed Balls is now identified as  chief consultant to the hares, although his advice on the number of bags of flour was not taken on board [Ed. such flagrant disregard for expert advice…Was it 2 or 3 bags that was recommended?]. They certainly weren’t used for any checks, as reported by Gaffer, although rumour has it that 14 bags were used… Enough for a pancake. anyway! However, Ching Chong had remortgaged her home for costs – including the down downs! [Ed. all in the usual run of sacrifice to be expected of a hare, of course…😬].

On to the hash:

‘Not enough mud’ was one complaint heard! [Ed. I think you’ll find hares for the next few months are committed to remedying this shortcoming]

The marks at the Long/Short split had disappeared [Ed. well, there had to be some element of challenge in the absence of those traditional circular ones…]

There was an extremely rocky downhill track that closely resembled a river bed/stream, and the Longs went down to Gara Bridge, which meant a big climb back.

The Shorts managed to get swept up by the Hare, so fortunately avoided getting lost.

Shaggy didn’t fall over but got all the checks right [Ed. yep, every last one of them], and Undercovers got sucked off….in a bog! [Ed. desperate times, indeed…]

Muckspreader and Overshot had planned to change the OH to a check but couldn’t find it.

Overshot seems to have lost his title [Ed. somewhere…somewhere in a field in East Allington/Ermington/Dittisham]…and is now just plain Mr and not a Lord!

Winnie the Pooh and Oui Oui found a nice boot wash at the end in the Village Hall car park for rinsing out their smalls (socks and trainers) – see attached photo, courtesy of Yeuck

Special thanks to Jeremy, Bridget and the staff at the New Inn for hosting us for Down Downs.

A Fact: David Brain the local weatherman has said it will be dry on Saturday…(and, as of writing this today [Ed. yesterday], he got that right!) [Ed. such a relief to see, today (Sunday), that normal 2026 service has resumed and the mud is no longer at risk of dehydration.]

Hashers were reminded to sign the Petition for the Torcross line that the local MP is appealing for: https://www.carolinevoaden.com/coastal-erosion-at-start-bay [Ed. Please consider signing if you haven’t already…]

Birthdays celebrations were sung to…Good Head for tomorrow [Ed. Thursday]

Badcock was a virgin A2B-er at the weekend and reported it was the furthest he had ever run! 🎉

Down Downs were awarded to:-

  • Ching Chong & Can’t Come – Hares
  • Squashed Balls – Hare Consultant
  • Badcock – Virgin A2B
  • Gaffer – for not finding the checks
  • Good Head – Birthday
