Hash 1572 – IVYBRIDGE

So, after last week’s masterful display of Scribe wordsmith-ery, ribald raconteur Know Nuts has turned Hare, and this week’s appointed Scribe has…disappeared off on holiday!!

On such occasions, I usually can’t resist the opportunity to churn out some lamentably-pale approximation of a substitute report, but events have conspired against me this week (you don’t need to whoop quite so loudly…), so I have only time to say:

Last week’s trail, gallantly laid solo by our favourite moustachio-ed Hare (that week), Anchorman, was a triumphant masterclass in trail-laying (apart from the very slight is it Short?/is it backward Longs? skirmish in the gorse early doors), featuring surprising urban ginnels, river crossings, moorland explorations, bogs, root-bestrewn riverside pathways, rocky uphill an downhill scrambles, and abundant shiggy.

Those who’d impulsively transitioned to Summer trail kit (specifically where it featured shorts) in the balmy daytime conditions of a (non-rainy!) Spring day, were apprised of their rashness through the medium of tiny lacerations, courtesy of the various gorse thickets on trail (some debate as to whether this was entirely necessary. Or if the gorse thickets were, in fact, on trail).

Also noteworthy was the absence of rain (I may have mentioned that already…) and a glorious, fiery moon (somewhat ingloriously known as a Worm Moon, apparently) which proved yet another distraction for excitable hashers.

Then all back to the Exchange, where we were competing with live football in every room, but treated to the RA-stylings of the excellent Squashed Balls who thoughtfully recorded his speaking notes for the evening’s Scribe on a polystyrene takeaway box (at least it wasn’t a raw sausage – as, and I think I speak for all Scribes [or, indeed, just ‘all’], I am always relieved to note whenever it is not…). Unfortunately, this helpful aide memoire was left in the pub, or these might have been a more accurate and entertaining record of events.

Down Downs went to:

  • Anchorman – Hare
  • Rusty – Birthday
  • Beefy? – Ummm…
  • (Probably) Olive …
  • Others…?! 😬😬
